High Tech Three Dimensional Textiles by Aleksandra Gaca

High-Tech-Three-Dimensional-Textiles-by-Aleksandra-Gaca_001

Aleksandra Gaca is a textile designer from the Netherlands whose fascination with three dimensional weave structures has led to the creation of unique acoustical textiles. For inspiration she draws from the structure and repetition found in architecture as well as from more dynamic concepts such as dance, drama and movement. Aleksandra's broad use of materials, from soft mohairs to super strong monofilaments, make her high tech fabrics particularly qualified for wall covering, partitions or screens within architectural spaces.

Modern Laser Cut Textiles by Camilla Diedrich

Modern-Laser-Cut-Textiles-by-Camilla-Diedrich_001

Finding inspiration in everything from a movie to architecture, Swedish textile designer Camilla Diedrich is challenging conventional ideas of what textiles should be. She is one of the first designers to structure textiles in terms of negative space by cutting holes into them using a laser. This exploration of negative space has led to the incredible transformation of a fabric's flat surfaces into richly-textured, three-dimensional forms. Her most iconic product to date is the BPL Lamp for Rotaliana which is wrapped in the Bubbly textile.

Handmade-Dutch-Textiles-by-Claudy-Jongstra_001

Claudy Jongstra is a Dutch textile artist who works with architects and clients around the world to create primitive, yet very sophisticated, handmade textile installations for interiors. Always tactile in nature, her installations improve spatial acoustics while enhancing the aesthetics of the environment; making them softer and more human. Interestingly, Jongstra raises her own sheep in the Dutch countryside, including the rare long-haired Drenthe heath, which enables her to enhance the quality of wool she uses in her projects.

Handmade-Block-Printed-Fabrics-by-Galbraith-and-Paul_001

In a world where everything is churned off of an assembly line somewhere in China, it is so refreshing to see textiles made at the hands of true artisans. From their Philadelphia studio, Galbraith & Paul continue the old world tradition of hand block printing on beautiful Shantung silks, linens and velvets. In the studio, artisans utilize Liz Galbraith's signature color palettes and patterns when block printing the fabrics with paints. It is her amazing eye for color that is attributed to the creation of this classic and timeless textile line.
