The-Seat-Table-That-Created-a-Global-Art-Movement-by-Zaishu-Design-Studio_001

Launched in 2004 by Australian designers Matthew Butler and Helen Punton, Zaishu Design Studio uses furniture design to celebrate culture and foster social unity. Their Zaishu seat/table, inspired by the slotted wood beams found in Japanese Buddhist temples, is designed using five interconnecting panels. Instigating a global art movement, the studio has collaborated with Indian sign-writers, graffiti artists, tribal artists and school children in the creation of Zaishu's ornately designed hand-painted and silk-screened panels.

Monochromatic Furniture Pieces by Jaime Hayón

Monochrome-Furniture-Pieces-by-Jaime-Hayon_001

Jaime Hayón is a Madrid artist-designer who instinctively blurs the lines between art, decoration and design. His Showtime Collection for BD Barcelona is inspired by classical MGM musicals and merges organic forms with classical details. Comprised of innovative material combinations, such as leather and plastic, these off-beat pieces have garnered quite the cult following among design aficionados. Jaime's introduction of Lounger, an elegant monochromatic wing chair, completes his Showtime collection for BD.

Modern furniture with a timeless appeal and the warmth of solid wood is the unmistakable trademark of Matthew Hilton. Inspired by the strong forms of Spain's characteristic objects, his wood chair collection is infused with an inherent sculptural quality that verges on art. Until Hilton's recent collaboration with De La Espada, this collection was available in limited quantities. De La Espada specializes in hand crafting and traditional construction methods and is able to mass produce this collection while maintaining the detail.

Vintage Furniture in Middle Eastern Fabrics by Bokja

Vintage-Furniture-Reupholstered-in-Middle-Eastern-Textiles-by-Bokja_001

Founded by Hoda Baroudi and Maria Hibri, Bokja is a Lebanese furniture company known for reinventing mid twentieth-century furniture pieces by reupholstering them in vintage Middle Eastern textiles. Bokja's unique aesthetic is a collage of different time periods and geographical locations intertwined with the imaginative use of color and texture. Because many of their unique designs incorporate intricate embellishments, the design studio works hard to preserve the age old tradition of embroidery by working with local artisans.
