Reclaimed and Sustainable Wood Flooring by Pioneer Millworks
To date, Pioneer Millworks has prevented over 20 million board feet of antique wood from ending up in the landfill. Their reclaimed wood is salvaged primarily from barns and other industrial buildings being demolished. These structures were often built with materials harvested from Virgin forests and the woods show beautiful tight growth rings, rich patina, and character from previous use. Wiped out by blights in the early parts of the 20th Century, species like Chestnut and Elm are now available for use as reclaimed materials.

This is an example of a custom that Pioneer Millworks designed for one of their clients. It features barn wood that has been skip-planed on the painted side - a process that adds to the time-worn character of the floor by leaving areas with a rich paint patina intact.

Created from a mosaic of Northeastern hardwoods, the Settlers' Plank in Mixed Hardwoods maintains a more relaxed, barn floor look with greater variety of color and grains due to the many species featured. Original wear marks, knots, saw marks, nail holes are naturally inherent.

Decimated by a fungal blight in the early/mid 20th Century, Settler's Plank in Chestnut is considered the "holy grail" of salvaged woods. This wood species is highly sought after as it is no longer available as a fresh sawn wood.

This Rescued Industrial Maple flooring is very special because it is the only material Pioneer Millworks recycles that served as a floor in its past life. Rescued from structures that are in the process of being demolished, this hardwood flooring is surface cleaned and trimmed at the mill and contains significant patina from the floor's previous life.

Black and Tan oak is a limited edition hardwood floor. It acquired its name from the rugged coat of black paint that covers its surface - which when removed reveals a rich, tan-colored oak. This flooring is shown skip-planed on the painted side with just a hint of tan.
